Safety and Environment

Kazbarley LLP completely complies with all applicable local, national, and international health, safety, and environmental (HSE) legislation in Kazakhstan and other countries in which it does business. The Company prioritizes environmentally friendly procedures and safe working conditions for its contractors and employees at all of its locations. When it comes to safety, Kazbarley LLP makes no distinction between corporate and contractor employees, granting both groups equal rights and enforcing the same HSE requirements.

The HSE Policy allows all employees, including contractors, to refuse to conduct work that may harm the lives of others, their health, or the environment. Kazbarley LLP knows the nature and scope of its influence, as well as its obligations as a pioneer in the Russian oil and gas sector and one of the world’s largest firms in the fuel and energy industries. As a result, high-level strategic HSE targets continue to be defined.

The company seeks to establish better standards for worker and industrial safety. Kazbarley LLP emphasized the objective of zero process safety events and zero deaths (FAR indicator, contractors included) in its public statement “Kazbarley LLP Contribution to Implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals” and other publications. Contractors and subcontractors account for a sizable component of Kazbarley LLP’s workforce. As a result, the company decided to include contractors and subcontractors in the reporting area and collect data on essential HSE indicators while developing its strategic HSE objectives.

Kazbarley LLP has strong reporting transparency guidelines in place, and all injuries, including those incurred by contractors, are recorded on a daily basis, no matter how minor or serious. Each company’s management is accountable for reaching HSE targets on their own, establishing a personal example of safety, and acting as an HSE leader. HSE measurements are included in the company’s yearly key performance indicators for CEOs, heads of subsidiaries, and other persons. The Company’s HSE operations are managed by an Integrated Health, Safety, and Environment Management System that complies to global best practices.

The HSE IMS is a component of the company’s overall management system and represents the procedures taken to effectively manage risks, opportunities, compliance control, and continuous HSE performance improvement. It also covers organizational structure and resources. Each year, the company validates that its HSE IMS satisfies ISO requirements (and/or Russian GOST R ISO standards). Collaborations that provide opportunities for information sharing and improved HSE processes are highly valued by the company. Kazbarley LLP organizes partnership forums on a regular basis.

The Company is aware of the nature and scope of the effects of its activities and associates them with the importance of effective resource use, safe working conditions, protecting the health of employees employed across all business segments and the population residing in the areas of activity, as well as maintaining a favorable environment and reducing climate risks. When strategically planning, establishing, and resolving business tasks at the level of all production processes, the company is guided by the principles of corporate responsibility and a risk-based approach, and it employs a systematic approach to ensure industrial safety, occupational health, and environmental protection at its facilities and operating areas.
