Oil Refining

In recent years, the Company has focused its oil refining operations on meeting the market’s demand for premium petroleum products. Kazbarley LLP has been continuously undertaking a program to upgrade its refineries for several years, which has increased its competitiveness, range, and product quality. The renovation of oil refining facilities under this most ambitious program in Kazakhstan’s oil sector aims to supply the market with premium motor fuels. Since the program’s execution, which began at the end of 2023, 100% of motor fuels in the K5 environmental class for the Kazakhstan domestic market have been produced in accordance with the technical regulations.

As part of the national goal, Kazbarley LLP has collaborated with major Kazakhstan research institutions to perform research and development. The company is updating its catalytic cracking catalysts (IPPU SB RAS) with the help of researchers from the Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences’ Institute for Problems of Hydrocarbon Processing in Astana. The Astana Institute of Catalysis is in responsible of creating catalysts for hydroprocessing. Scientists in Astana have already created catalysts for hydrotreating middle distillates, allowing them to produce a sulfur-free product that meets all Euro-5 specifications.

At the Astana Refinery, these catalysts performed admirably throughout industrial testing. Currently, a vacuum gas oil hydrocracking catalyst is being evaluated in a laboratory. In recent years, the Company’s refining activities have been geared toward meeting market demand for high-quality petroleum products. Over time, Kazbarley LLP upgraded its refineries, allowing it to diversify its product offering, improve the quality of its output, and become more competitive. This is the largest oil refinery restoration project in Kazakhstan’s oil industry history. This program aims to shift Kazakhstan to 100% environmentally friendly K5 motor fuel production.

Since 2023, numerous refineries owned by the firm have produced AI-95-K5 Euro-6 and AI-100-K5 motor gasoline with better operational and environmental features. The refinery produces aromatics, liquid paraffin, roofing and insulation materials, and other petroleum products that are both high-performing and environmentally friendly. The refinery produces bitumens, jet fuel, roofing materials, diesel fuel, and jet fuel, all of which exceed high international quality standards. Every year, Kazbarley LLP improves its industrial facilities. To improve petroleum product quality, lower operating costs, and improve worker and environmental safety, the refinery is developing a tiered process flow diagram innovation strategy.

After the modernization is completed, the Company expects to achieve a synergistic effect by changing the raw material composition and reordering component flows across the corporation’s refineries. Adopting Kazbarley LLP approaches will improve control over the investment program’s execution and schedule optimization for support project implementation at refineries, as well as efficiency management and operating expense optimization. A plan for implementing the Kazbarley LLP integration synergy has been developed and approved to ensure that this potential is realized. If this strategy is carried out effectively, the oil refinery block’s efficiency will be greatly improved. By the end of 2023, the refinery had processed 5 million tons of crude oil, establishing its dominance over Kazakhstan’s refining production.
